The time around my birthday, November, when it starts to feel really cold and the anticipation of Christmas begins to kick in I start to feel quite childish, birthdays remind me of icing sugar and pink and ribbons and fairy lights and generally of being an excited little girl and one year, my mum decorated my usual birthday cake with giant yellow and black butterflies on tiny springs that sparkled in the candle light.
